We Are Being Adept

Being Adept hires only those young adults best able to connect and mentor middle school students—namely college graduates with backgrounds in psychology, teaching, neuroscience, and youth leadership. Each Youth Educator attends our training program that includes motivational interviewing and other evidence-based methods recommended for alcohol and drug abuse prevention training.

Meet Our Board

Jennifer Grellman

Jennifer S. Grellman, MS, LMFT
Founder & Executive Director
Jennifer is the founder of Being Adept. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 10 years of experience doing adolescent and family psychotherapy in Marin County. Jennifer served for four years as an elected official and President of the Kentfield School Board for the Kentfield School District. She is a graduate of UC Berkeley and received her graduate degree in counseling psychology at Dominican University.

Allan P. Gold, Ph.D
Chairman of the Board, District Psychologist, Reed Union School District
Allan is the District Psychologist for the Reed Union School District in Tiburon, California.  He has served as the psychologist there since 1976.  He earned his Ph.D. in Educational and School Psychology at U.C. Berkeley, where he taught in the School of Education from 1980-1988.  He is a California Outstanding School Psychologist, a District Phoebe Apperson Hearst Award Winner, and a nationally certified School Psychologist.

 
Dylis Bart

Dilys Bart, MD
Dilys majored in Human Biology at Stanford University. After graduating with honors and distinction, she attended UCSF Medical School and completed her ophthalmology residency at Washington University. She is currently in solo private practice in San Francisco. 

Itamar Bikszer

Itamar M. Bikszer, MSN, RN
Itamar is currently a Critical Care Nurse at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Oregon and also a member of the Emergency Department Management Team at Kaiser Permanente in San Rafael, California. He is very fortunate to have been part of the Being Adept program from its early days and is proud to continue his support for the important work the program offers to the youth and parents of our communities.

 
Jenny Overstreet

Jenny Overstreet
Jenny is a graduate of Mills College, a Silicon Valley startup veteran and mom of two teenagers.  The urgency of her interest in drug and alcohol education for middle schoolers began with the death at age 43 from alcoholism of her younger sister, who was first suspended from school for alcohol use in 7th grade.

Karen Clark Ott

Karin Clark Ott
Karin Clark Ott is the Director of Marketing for Kistler Vineyards. She moved to Marin in 2013 after 20 years in Manhattan Beach, California. She raised 3 children and was involved in fundraising for the schools, getting art and healthy lifestyle programs into grade schools and parent education during the teenage years. Karin understands the necessity of education, support and parental involvement to tackle the ongoing problem of growing up too fast.

 
Lisa Amini

Lisa Amini, MBA
Lisa graduated from University of California, Santa Barbara with highest honors with a degree in Biology with emphasis on Pharmacology.  She went on to get her MBA from University of California, Berkeley with focus on Finance/International Finance.  Throughout her career following this, Lisa has worked in different areas of finance primarily in corporate and in project finance in banking/investment banking, with contractors, developers and financial advisory firms. 

Mike Guinasso

Mike Guinasso
Mike was raised in Marin County and graduated from Dominican University of California with a bachelor's in psychology. While at Dominican, Mike fulfilled his passion for working with others by joining the team at Being Adept, where he felt at home speaking in front of parents and students alike. Hoping to inspire others and spread the message of Being Adept that education is the key to change, Mike has continued to stay connected to his home community and the Being Adept team.
